Finger Math (also known as Chisanbop) is a Korean finger-counting technique that allows you to represent numbers from 0 to 99 using both hands. It’s a powerful tool to develop mental arithmetic skills, especially for young learners.
Basic Rules
Right hand represents units (0–9), while the left hand represents tens (10, 20, ..., 90).
- Index finger = 1
- Index + middle = 2
- Index + middle + ring = 3
- All four fingers (excluding thumb) = 4
- Thumb = 5
- Thumb + index = 6 (5 + 1), etc.
The left hand follows the same pattern, but multiplied by 10:
- Index finger (left) = 10
- Thumb (left) = 50
- Thumb + index (left) = 60, and so on.
