The hero of faith, Peter Vu Van Truat, was born in 1817 in Ha Thach village, Son Vy district, Son Tay province. Due to his father's early death, his poor family could not afford to send him to school. However, Peter Truat still had piety and dreamed of dedicating his life to God.
At the age of 15, thanks to the understanding of the missionary Cornay-Tan, Peter Truat was accepted into the Lord's House. In 1838, Peter Truat went to assist the missionaries Francois Marette-Phan and Jean Cornay-Tan in administering the Bau No parish, teaching catechism to the faithful despite his own limited education.
On June 20, 1837, due to being accused by a warlord's wife, Peter Truat was arrested and tortured to force him to reveal the hiding places of the Western missionaries, but he remained silent and endured. After 4 months of imprisonment, Peter Truat was sentenced to death by beheading.
To encourage the faithful, Bishop Havard-Du decided to elevate Peter Truat to the rank of "preacher". In the winter of the year of the Buffalo (1838), on December 18, Peter Truat was beheaded at the execution grounds near Do Voi hill, Mong Phu village. After receiving the Sacrament of Confession, Master Truat bravely offered his life according to the sentence.
On May 27, 1900, Peter Vu Van Truat was beatified, and then canonized on June 19, 1988.
