Improve your productivity with Pomodoro Technique

Improve your productivity with Pomodoro Technique
Were you distracted and interrupted by the phone, email, Facebook, social networks, etc when doing a task? Do you feel tired or lose motivation when doing a task continuously for a long time? Have your tasks been delayed and become a plan for the future? If you answered Yes to any of them, you need the Pomodoro technique.
Created:

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s.

Cirillo was easily distracted and unable to focus when studying at Guido Carli International University (a business school in Rome - Italy), so he decided to give himself a challenge: study without interruption for 10 minutes. He used a tomato-shaped kitchen timer to keep track.

A few years later, he used the timer in his job as a software developer for a European bank and found it strengthened his productivity. He named his system the Pomodoro Technique, after the Italian word for tomato (he used a tomato-shaped timer).

Through years of observations and measurements, Cirillo found the 25-minute work session maximized attention and minimized the chance of interruption.

This article is only my experience when using the Pomodoro Technique. You should read Cirillo's website for more information.

The Pomodoro Technique

First, you need to define the tasks that must be completed. Then you do as the table below:

3

Set the timer to 25 minutes.

Work on the task until the timer rings.

Take a short 5 minute break.

Take a long 15-30 minute break.

Repeat 4 times

Take a long 15-30 minute break.

Note:

  • During break time you can breathe, meditate, drink a cup of coffee, take a short walk or do something else to relax, not doing anything related to work. You also need to give your eyes a rest! Please DO NOT force them to check messages, emails, or play games on your phone while relaxing. Be relaxed! Your brain will use this time to assimilate new information and rest before the next round.
  • You can buy tomato clocks using the Pomodoro Technique on e-commerce sites. You can also use some websites or software on your phone or your Desktop or install some browser extensions. Depending on your purpose and budget, you can choose the suitable one. I use the Pomodoro Technique on my website https://vulehuan.com/en/pomodoro
